OUR PHILOSOPHY

A haircut should never be something to dread.

Sensory Snips exists to create a safe, welcoming barbering experience for children and adults with intellectual disabilities who often feel overlooked in traditional salons. We believe everyone deserves dignity, patience, and care, not just a haircut. By designing a sensory-friendly environment and adapting our approach to each individual, we aim to turn what can be an overwhelming experience into one of comfort and trust. Our purpose is simple: to make every client feel seen, respected, and confident.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

No rush

Every client gets the time they need. We don't overbook. We don't hurry.

No surprises

We prepare before you arrive. The environment, the tools, the TV — all set the way you need it.

No judgement

Whether it takes ten minutes or two hours — we're here for all of it.

OUR HAIRDRESSER

Michelle Polson

Hi, I'm Michelle. I'm a qualified hairdresser with over 15 years of experience. Throughout my career, I've naturally connected with clients who needed a little extra patience and understanding. Many families specifically requested me to cut their or their children's hair because they knew I would take the time to explain each step, move at their pace, and create a calm, safe experience without judgement or pressure.

Looking back, I realise this approach came naturally because of my own lived experience. As someone who is neurodivergent and has experienced mental health challenges, I understand how overwhelming everyday environments can feel and how important it is to feel safe, respected and in control. That understanding has shaped the way I care for every person who sits in my chair.

I'm also currently completing a Certificate III in Individual Support, along with a Mind Body Practitioner course, to continue expanding my knowledge and better support the diverse needs of the people I work with.

Creating a safe space isn't just what I do—it's who I am.
